Start with your actual business
Freelancing, consulting, and other self-employment can be business activities. You do not necessarily need employees or an LLC to apply. Use your actual legal name, structure, activity, and revenue; follow the application’s instructions for estimates. An EIN alone does not establish eligibility.
Gather the right documents
Review the issuer’s checklist for your business structure. Expect identification, a tax ID, business address and activity, and ownership information; registered entities may need formation documents. A sole proprietor’s documentation can differ. Keep these records private and submit them only through the issuer’s secure process.
Check the business and every relevant owner’s history
Prior-account restrictions may apply to the business, signers, or cardholder. The reviewed Ink Cash and Unlimited offers share eligibility wording about previous no-annual-fee Chase business cards. Do not plan on collecting both bonuses or assume a new business name resets eligibility.
Reserve cash for a checking offer
Write down the required new-money amount and its permitted source. Keep a separate reserve for operating expenses. Record the funding deadline, balance-maintenance period, and transaction count. Maintain a buffer for fees and withdrawals; the bonus amount is not money you can use before it is paid.
Count only the transactions this offer allows
Read the specific exclusions. The reviewed Chase business checking offer excludes Zelle and ACH debits, while U.S. Bank’s reviewed offer includes specified Zelle and ACH activity. A rule from your personal checking account may be different again. Reconcile posted activity before the deadline.
Budget a card bonus against real business purchases
List ordinary business purchases already planned and allowed by the card agreement. Subtract expected refunds and exclude account funding, cash advances, balance transfers, fees, and other prohibited transactions. Do not buy extra inventory or equipment just to reach a reward. Keep the repayment plan separate from the expected bonus.
Understand personal liability
A business card can still involve your personal credit and a personal guarantee. Chase describes joint and several liability for Ink cards: the business structure does not remove the cardholder’s repayment obligation. Read the agreement before accepting it and confirm any credit inquiry disclosures.
Keep a completion record
Save the exact offer, promo code, enrollment confirmation, issuer-confirmed opening date, statements, and posted transactions. Use an early target for each milestone. BonusField checklists are private browser notes, not bank verification.
Verify payout and the ongoing fit
Wait through the offer’s stated payment window. If the reward is missing, ask the issuer which requirement is outstanding and retain the support reference. Check fees, account-standing rules, and any closure conditions before changing the account. Keep bonus and expense records for tax reporting.
