How do I earn this bonus?

  1. Open Bank Smartly Checking through the promotional offer page by November 10, 2026, so the offer is attached automatically. If opening in a branch or by phone, have the banker activate it at opening. The account must receive at least $25 within 60 days to avoid closure.
  2. Enroll in the U.S. Bank Mobile App or online banking within 90 days after opening.
  3. Receive at least two qualifying payroll or government-benefit direct deposits within 90 days. Their total determines the listed tier: $250 for $2,000–$4,999.99, $350 for $5,000–$7,999.99, or $450 for $8,000 or more. Keep the account open with a positive balance for payout.

What counts—and what doesn’t.

Qualifying activity

  • At least two ACH paycheck deposits from an employer or electronic government-benefit deposits, totaling the stated tier within 90 days of opening.

Excluded or unsafe to assume

  • Transfers from your own bank, other electronic deposits, and person-to-person payments are not qualifying direct deposits for this bonus. One large deposit does not satisfy the at-least-two-deposit rule.
The easy-to-miss detail

Two posted qualifying deposits are required. The 90-day bonus total and each monthly maintenance-fee waiver use different periods and thresholds.

Who is eligible for this offer?

You and every owner of the new account must have no current U.S. Bank consumer checking account, no such account in the last 12 months, and no other U.S. Bank consumer checking bonus in the last 12 months. Trust accounts and Alliance-partnership openings are excluded; availability may depend on the U.S. Bank footprint.

The promotional page applies the offer automatically online. An application from another U.S. Bank page may miss it; a branch or phone opening needs banker activation. The formal disclosure says to open from September 10 through November 10, 2026, while the FAQ says an application submitted before the deadline may qualify even if the account opens later. If your application or opening crosses the deadline, ask U.S. Bank to confirm the attached offer and keep its response. Only one bonus per eligible account, and this cannot be combined with another checking offer. Current U.S. Bank employees may participate under the posted terms.

U.S. personal checking offer; U.S. Bank says it may not be available outside its footprint. Check availability for your address. Account approval and bonus eligibility are separate decisions.

What fees could reduce the bonus?

A $12 monthly maintenance fee applies, waived for the first two statement periods. Later waiver routes include combined monthly direct deposits of at least $1,500, a minimum average account balance of $1,500, certain eligible relationships, or listed age/military categories. The $8,000 bonus tier is measured across 90 days; it does not itself prove the separate $1,500 monthly fee waiver. Other fees may apply.

When does the qualification clock start?

The 90-day activity period starts when the account opens, not on the first payday. Funding at least $25 within 60 days is a separate account-closure condition.

When should the bonus arrive?

Within 30 days after completing all requirements, if the account remains open with a positive balance. U.S. Bank reports the adjusted-interest bonus on Form 1099-INT.

A concrete example

Planning example: two eligible $4,000 paychecks posted within 90 days can reach the $450 tier. An $8,000 transfer from your own savings account cannot replace them. Check the $1,500 monthly fee-waiver requirement separately.

YOUR BONUS PLAN

Keep the terms. Track the steps.

Save this version of our summary with your dates and checklist. A later offer update will not rewrite your plan. Keep the official agreement and enrollment confirmation separately.

Your completion checklist.

Checkmarks are your notes, not confirmation from the issuer. Save a plan above to keep them with a specific offer summary.

Keep the terms with your checklist.

Save the official offer terms and your enrollment confirmation. Record the exact start date, qualifying activity, deadline, and expected payout. Check the issuer’s full account agreement for account-standing, holding-period, and early-closure conditions; this summary does not establish that there are none.

Keep the account open with a positive balance through payout. Confirm the attached promotion and current account pricing before opening.

If the bonus does not arrive

Wait through the stated payout window, then ask the issuer which condition remains unmet. Keep your offer confirmation, relevant statements or posted activity, and support case number. Share account documents only through the issuer’s secure channels.
