The short answer: the payout clock starts only after you meet the offer’s actual requirements.
There is no single posting time for every credit-card welcome bonus. In the current BonusField shortlist, Capital One’s reviewed terms say within two billing cycles after qualifying, while the reviewed Chase offers say to allow six to eight weeks after qualifying. A reward can appear sooner, but plan from the written maximum rather than an anecdote.
First, eligible purchases must post inside the offer’s spending window, net of returns. Then the account must remain eligible while the issuer processes the reward under its stated payout terms.
A pending charge, a displayed spending tracker, or your own arithmetic does not prove completion. Reconcile the posted transactions and exclusions in the offer you accepted.
Compare the current written payout windows.
This table is generated from the same source and freshness gate used by BonusField’s live personal and business card pages. It is a dated comparison of the six currently published cards, not a promise that every issuer will pay on the last or first day shown.

Confirm five checkpoints before calling the bonus late.
- The offer was attached. Find the exact application page, invitation, approval record, or secure-message confirmation showing the reward and terms.
- You were eligible for the reward. Account approval does not override current-card, prior-card, card-family, or prior-bonus restrictions.
- Enough eligible purchases posted. Subtract returns and exclude balance transfers, cash advances, fees, interest, and other cash-like or prohibited activity.
- The purchases posted before the real deadline. The clock normally begins at account opening for the cards reviewed here, not delivery or activation.
- The written payout window has elapsed. Start it from the issuer-recognized qualification date, then count the stated weeks or billing cycles as written.
Keep a small, private reward record.
- The full welcome-offer terms and application channel
- Application approval and issuer-confirmed account-opening date
- The purchase target and exact deadline
- Posted eligible purchases, returns, and refunds
- The date the issuer says the target was met, if shown
- Statements covering qualification and the payout window
- Dates, secure-message copies, and case numbers from support

Ask the issuer one precise question at a time.
- Use the number on the card, the authenticated issuer app, or the issuer’s secure website.
- Ask the representative to confirm the exact welcome offer attached to the account.
- Ask whether the issuer shows the purchase requirement as complete and the date it became complete.
- Ask which transaction or eligibility condition is missing if the system does not show completion.
- Ask for the expected posting window and a case number. Save the response privately.
- Escalate through the issuer’s documented process if the written window has passed and the first response does not resolve the discrepancy.

If direct issuer follow-up does not resolve a documented problem, the CFPB accepts credit-card complaints and forwards eligible complaints to companies for response. Preserving the application channel matters. In a public enforcement action, the CFPB found that some consumers were denied an advertised sign-up reward when the application channel differed and that some promised rewards were not delivered because of employee error. That action concerned a specific institution and does not prove what happened in another account. CFPB: Bank of America credit-card rewards enforcement action ↗
Common questions
Should I call as soon as I cross the purchase target?
First confirm that enough eligible purchases have posted after subtracting returns. You can ask the issuer to confirm progress, but a representative’s estimate does not replace the written payout window.
What if the app’s bonus tracker disappears?
Save a screenshot or secure message showing prior progress when available, then ask whether the offer remains attached and whether the requirement shows complete. A missing interface element does not prove that the reward was earned or lost.
Can the bonus post before the next statement?
It may, depending on the issuer and account. Use the maximum written window for planning. Do not schedule nonrefundable travel or another expense around an early posting assumption.
Does the reward count as my card payment?
Do not assume it does. Continue making at least the required payment by the due date. A cash-back balance, statement credit, points, or miles can follow different redemption and payment rules.
What if I return something after the reward posts?
The issuer may subtract rewards, reverse the bonus, or otherwise apply the account terms. Keep enough net eligible purchases and do not manufacture spending simply to replace a return.
Is a missing welcome bonus a billing error?
Do not automatically use a charge-dispute process for a promotional reward problem. Start with the rewards or account-support channel and follow the issuer’s escalation instructions. Disputing a legitimate purchase is not a substitute for a bonus inquiry.
