NO DIRECT DEPOSIT REQUIRED

Can you earn a bank bonus without direct deposit?

Compare current bank bonuses using new-money deposits or qualifying debit purchases instead of payroll direct deposit, with deadlines, fees, exclusions and payout rules.

U.S. guide and offer comparison reviewed . This is a selected current shortlist, not the whole market.
01

Yes. Savings deposits or debit purchases can replace payroll.

The 3 current options below do not require a qualifying paycheck. Chase Savings and E*TRADE Premium Savings use outside new money plus a balance-maintenance test. Capital One 360 Checking has an alternative DEBIT250 path based on debit-card purchases; it is a choice instead of its CHECKING250 direct-deposit path, not a second bonus to stack.

No direct deposit does not mean no deposit.

For savings, compare outside funding, the hold, fees and forgone interest. For the debit path, confirm the promo code, eligible purchase types and the 75-day transaction clock.

Choose the activity you can complete.

Savings: measure the cost of holding the balance.

A savings bonus can lose value through monthly fees or interest you would have earned elsewhere. The Chase promotion currently uses a lower balance threshold, while the E*TRADE promotion requires more new money, promo code SAVING26 at opening, and includes a separate six-month promotional APY. E*TRADE lists September 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET for the cash-bonus enrollment but 8:45 p.m. ET for the promotional APY enrollment. Do not assume the later cash deadline also preserves the boosted rate. Rates are variable or offer-specific, so enter the live rates in the bank bonus value calculator.

Check before moving money

  • Whether the funds are new to the issuer and its affiliates
  • The funding deadline and the date the balance is measured
  • Daily balance versus average daily balance
  • How withdrawals and account fees affect the threshold
  • The payout window after the hold ends

Do not assume

  • A self-transfer is always excluded; these savings offers expressly allow outside-bank money
  • Touching the required balance once completes the offer
  • A promotional APY and cash bonus have identical eligibility rules
  • No monthly fee means no other charges
  • An account-opening approval confirms bonus eligibility

Checking: choose one Capital One bonus path.

DEBIT250 uses 20 qualifying debit purchases during the first 75 days rather than payroll. Capital One says the debit and direct-deposit codes cannot be combined on one account. Its headline says each purchase is $10 or more, while the detailed definition says above $10. Plan ordinary card purchases strictly greater than $10 and do not count ATM, Zelle/Venmo, ACH or PIN-based cash withdrawal activity. Read the full debit rules and exclusions →

Qualify from the written sequence.

For the savings promotions

  1. Open through the exact promotion and save its code, page, and complete terms.
  2. Confirm that your prior account and bonus history passes the eligibility language.
  3. Identify which outside accounts can supply qualifying new money.
  4. Record the funding deadline and transfer early enough for funds to post.
  5. Keep a cushion above the required balance through the entire maintenance test.
  6. Track fees, withdrawals, and credited interest that can change the measured balance.
  7. Keep the account open and eligible through the full payout window.

For the DEBIT250 checking promotion

  1. Choose DEBIT250 before opening; save the accepted code and full terms. Do not expect a second CHECKING250 payout.
  2. Confirm every applicant passes the named-account primary/secondary-holder lookback.
  3. Fund the new checking account within 60 days of opening so it does not automatically close. No minimum balance is stated for the bonus.
  4. Use the new account’s debit card for at least 20 ordinary eligible in-person or online purchases strictly above $10 during the first 75 days.
  5. Reconcile the qualifying purchases against Capital One’s records. Exclude ATM, peer-to-peer, ACH, fraud and PIN-based cash withdrawals.
  6. Keep the account open and in good standing while Capital One assesses and pays the bonus, potentially through day 135.

Use the private bank bonus tracker to estimate dates, then keep issuer confirmations and transaction records in your own secure files.

Common questions

Can I transfer the money from another bank?

The two savings promotions permit qualifying money from outside the issuer and its affiliates. Their definitions differ, so read each detailed guide before choosing the source account. A transfer is not a DEBIT250 purchase.

Do I need a paycheck for these offers?

Chase Savings and E*TRADE Premium Savings use new-money deposits and maintenance periods. Capital One DEBIT250 uses eligible debit purchases. None of these paths requires a qualifying payroll direct deposit.

Does DEBIT250 require any account funding?

Yes. Capital One says a new 360 Checking account that is not funded within 60 days automatically closes. It states no minimum balance is needed for this bonus; the 20 qualifying debit purchases have their own 75-day clock.

Can I use both Capital One promo codes?

No. Capital One accepts one promotional code per new 360 Checking account and says account-opening offers cannot be combined. Choose DEBIT250 or CHECKING250 before opening.

Does exactly $10 count for DEBIT250?

The issuer page gives conflicting wording: a $10-or-more headline and an above-$10 detailed definition. Do not plan on exactly $10 purchases qualifying; use eligible purchases strictly above $10 and ask Capital One about uncertain transactions.

Are the E*TRADE $400 bonus and 4.00% APY one offer?

No. E*TRADE lists separate enrollment and qualification terms. The cash bonus needs code SAVING26 and $20,000 in qualifying net-new funds; the boosted APY is a separate new-account promotion with an earlier September 30 cutoff of 8:45 p.m. ET. Confirm both offers are still available before opening.

Can I withdraw the savings deposit after it arrives?

Withdrawing during the savings maintenance period can reduce or eliminate the reward. Chase requires the selected tier to remain through day 90; E*TRADE uses a 45-day average daily balance test after funding.

Which offer is better?

That depends on the cash you can leave available, ordinary debit purchases you expect to make, forgone interest, account fees, eligibility and the exact deadline. BonusField does not rank one as universally best.

Are these bonuses taxable?

The issuer pages state that the cash bonuses are reported on Form 1099-INT when applicable. See the bank bonus tax guide for general recordkeeping information.
